Message from the President
Who
would have thought this year would turn out the way it has. I referred
to the second wave of the virus in my last eNews and, while Victoria is
struggling, the rest of Australia is exposed as well. After all as a
nation we are only as strong as our weakest links, so we must all
patiently work together. Very few of us, if any, have ever experienced
something like this before. This virus is affecting the very structure
of our society. We are in a state of suspension or limbo with no clarity
of when or even if, it will end. All I can say is, please follow the
rules and hopefully remain safe.
A quick update from State Member Dominic Perrottet. I have been working
with him on four local issues. He is patiently dealing with TNSW
to arrange M2 noise monitoring. Since the M2 widening many residents on
both sides of the M2 experience noticeable noise issues. If you haven’t
registered your personal concerns with the Trust, it’s not too late to
let us know. The more complaints the more credible will be our
concerns. After resident complaints about the loss of overhead
lighting on the Kirkham Street M2 bridge Ausgrid has been asked to fix
the problem. No street lighting is a security and road safety
issue. Dominic is arranging for the Trust to be briefed by TNSW on
final design and construction time frame for the Beecroft Station lifts
and retention of the pedestrian ramp. Dominic met with Hornsby
Council’s General Manager to discuss the amount of State funds required
by Council to complete the incomplete Metro project that involves
rehabilitation of the former temporary Metro haulage road at Cheltenham
Oval.
Finally, the ongoing saga to protect the bushland in Byles Creek below
Malton Road Beecroft, will take another step closer to finality at
Hornsby Council’s General Meeting this coming week. See article
below.
Hornsby Council Business Papers On Wednesday night Hornsby Council will
consider the Byles Creek Acquisition Strategy. The Strategy, listed as
item 5, should be of interest to many of our readers as it is a further
step in the Byles Creek open space saga that has captured the public’s
attention ever since the owner of 79-87 Malton Road Beecroft lodged a
Development Application to subdivide the large bushland block into 4

Council staff have based the recommendation, that no residentially zoned
land needs to be acquired for additional open space, on the supporting
studies. Readers may remember the publicity the subdivision of 79-87
Malton Rd generated within the community seven years ago. The general
consensus at the time from various public surveys was that the community
wanted Council to use the funds generated from the sale of the former
church at Cheltenham to acquire residentially zoned land in Byles Creek
for additional open space. In order to justify that such an action was
in the public interest, Council funded the two studies that are
attached to the this week’s business papers. The Trust will review
the studies and consider making a submission for the speaking at the
Council meeting. Residents interested in

Outcome of the Proposed Child Care Centre in Orchard Rd Beecroft The
Local Planning Panel for Parramatta City Council refused the
development application for a Child Care Centre in Orchard Road
Beecroft.

Naturally, to grow our membership base & participation and look at other ways we can support the business community
What about that pandemic?
Should it not be appropriate to be holding events of this scale the
events will still go ahead. We will simply pivot onto an online format.
